Charlotte's Web Pot Now Legal

June 16, 2014 | WMFE, Orlando -- A kind of medical marijuana known as Charlotte's Web now is legal in Florida. Gov. Rick Scott signed the bill into law Monday.

Charlotte's Web is used to treat illnesses like epilepsy in children.

It’s a strain of marijuana that has low THC content, the chemical that causes a high, but is high in CBD, a non-euphoric compound linked with medical applications.

The governor also signed another bill into law banning six new synthetic drugs.

It's a third-degree felony under the law to possess or sell the drugs.

Three synthetic compounds also are banned.

Attorney General Pam Bondi says Florida medical examiners now are tracking deaths related to synthetic drugs to help improve law enforcement.
